About the author

     Del Phillips and his wife, Nancy and two sons  have lived in Moon Township for 10 years, moving here in 1988 from Colorado where he was a career professional soldier in the U.S. Army.   Both sons, Jeff and Jon are products of the Moon School system, and are Moon Area High School graduates and former football players.  It was during this period that Del became a faithful follower of Moon football having served as a member of the Quarterback Club during that time.  Both Jeff and Jon are presently attending Purdue University.

     Del  served over 27 years of honorable active service in the US Army.  Units of distinction that he was assigned to include the First Infantry Division, Third Infantry Division, Fourth Infantry Division, 1st Battalion 2nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion 30th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion 10th Infantry Regiment,  and Headquarters 1st Raider Brigade.   He served in every leadership and staff position within an infantry organization from private through  first sergeant and sergeant major.   He is the holder of many awards and decorations  for his service.   He is a graduate of the US Army Sergeant's Major Academy.  His service includes two tours of duty in Vietnam for a period of 22 months.  Other assignments included Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - Washington, D.C. , Indiana Univ. of PA ROTC Department,  US Army Infantry School - Fort Benning, GA., and US Army Readiness Group - Pittsburgh.

    Since retiring from active service in 1993, Del has been employed by the US Postal Service.  He also attends Community College of Allegheny County  on a part time basis with a goal of achieving a degree in computer science to add to his degree in General Management.  Nancy is employed in an administrative position with a local construction firm and is very active as an officer in church activities.
